Our Story

Sasha and Jason met in 2017 at Vancouver Island University. Jason’s crush was obvious — he thought she was adorable, even if a little shy. One science lab made it clear, as he trailed her from tank to tank, helping identify every species of fish just to be near her.

They started out as friends, hiking and studying together. Sasha wasn’t looking for anything serious, but she soon fell for Jason’s goofy charm, rugged hobbies, and good looks — while Jason fell for Sasha's signature “meep morp” noises and her knack for maximizing coziness and experiences in life.

Over the years, they have explored both front country and backcountry. From cocktails in Banff and Tacos in Golden, to float plane accessed hikes in Spatsizi Plateau Wilderness Park, they have road tripped, canoed, hiked, snowshoed and skied their way through almost eight amazing years together.

Sasha and Jason have been there for each other when things have not gone as planned. When Jason broke his leg, suffered a concussion, and then broke his collarbone all in short order, Sasha was there to support him and motivate him. When Sasha’s dad passed away Jason became her anchor, supporting her, and understanding when she needed a puppy to keep going. His love, patience, and presence helped her navigate one of the hardest times of her life.

In 2024, Sasha and Jason bought their first home in Smithers, BC. Surrounded by beautiful mountains and rolling hay fields, they couldn’t be happier calling the small mountain town home. From lazy summer evenings on the river and daylight until almost midnight, to cross country skiing with the dog and cozy board game nights with friends, Sasha and Jason have found their place as adults in life.

Through adventures, injuries, cozy evenings, and life’s biggest challenges, Sasha and Jason have grown into true best friends — partners who laugh, explore, and choose each other every day. They are excited to host friends and family to celebrate their connection and future.

GETTING HERE

By Air: Smithers has an airport serviced by Air Canada, the flight is about 1 h 20 min from Vancouver. Book your flight a decent ways out to avoid crazy prices! There are multiple car rental agencies in town: Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Northwest Truck Rentals, and Frontier Truck Rentals. Driving: If you will be driving, consider making it a road trip! It takes about 13 hours of driving time from Vancouver to reach Smithers. There are many great stops along the way, reach out to Sasha or Jason for suggestions. As an alternative, the Port Hardy to Prince Rupert Ferry is a fun way to see the coast and cut out some driving time.

Transportation

If you are flying to Smithers and would like to avoid renting a vehicle, it is easy to walk everywhere in town and there will be shuttle service to and from the venue - reach out to Jay and Sash to arrange a ride from the airport to town!

Accommodation

Smithers BC has a multitude of charming AirBnBs, hotels, and camping spots. These do tend to book up quickly in the summer, so the sooner you book, the better! AirBnBs: It's hard to go wrong! Our recommendation would be to find something within walking distance of Main Street. For a budget option we recommend grouping together with other guests and renting a larger house. On-site Accommodation: Our venue, Frontier Experience, offers cozy cabin rooms on their beautiful property, as well as one large 3-bed cabin that includes a full kitchen. Reach out to Jason or Sasha if you're interested in either of these options and we can get you in touch with their booking team! Hotels: We recommend the Prestige Hudson Bay, or the Sunshine Inn. The Prestige offers newer rooms and access to two restaurants. The Sunshine Inn is in the heart of downtown, with easy walking to the shops and restaurants on Main Street. Camping: The Riverside Municipal campground is close to town with nicely groomed RV and tent sites, as well as walking trails along the Bulkley River. It's a great place to stay if you're road-tripping with a dog. Tyhee Lake Provincial Park offers beautiful shady campsites in the forest, however note dogs aren't allowed on the beach. For a more rugged experience, the Twin Falls Recreation Site has limited off-grid first come first served sites. If you would like any further help or recommendations, reach out to Jason or Sasha!

Travel

Smithers' best bakery in the most idyllic location. Opens at 9 am Saturday only!! We recommend being there before 10 am, as they sell out fast! It's about a 40 minute bike ride from town, but there is parking available for those who are cycle-less. Bring cash for pastries and coffee!

The Bikery

There are multitudes of hikes to embark on in and around Smithers. For a shorter day hike, we highly recommend Crater Lake. For more experienced hikers, Babine Mountains Provincial Park offers a ton of great options. Do some research, or ask Jason or Sasha for more personalized recommendations. Remember to let someone know where you are going!

HIKING

Smithers is a great destination for road, gravel, and mountain biking, if you can bring a bike, we highly recommend you do! From enduro style mountain biking at the Bluff, alpine backcountry mountain biking in Babine Mountains Provincial Park, or gravel road riding with views along the Telkwa high road, Smithers has it all. You can rent a bike from McBike and Sport, however we recommend booking early!

Biking

The Smithers Golf Club is open to the public and has some of the best views in town.

GOLFING

Lake Kathlyn is the hot spot in town for a float - pack your paddleboard and enjoy the best view in town!

Smithers is a small town, but it sure has everything you need. Here are a few of our favorite spots to grab a bite, a coffee, or spend some coin.

The finest dining in Smithers - good vibes, great cocktails.

Smithers Brewing Co

This brewery has multiple national awards - they actually have good-tasting beer. Not to mention the building is beautiful. Truly a required stop when in Smithers. *Also serves kombucha for those who don't drink

Bugwood Coffee

The cutest outdoor coffee spot you have ever seen, also the best coffee in town.

Two Sisters Cafe

Want a coffee, but also maybe brunch or a sweet treat? This spot is cute, cozy, and makes a mean grilled-cheese.

Frozen North

A local student led initiative, Frozen North has the best fresh locally made ice cream.

You know we aren't the fanciest folk, so no black tie required for this party! We are recommending cocktail attire, but please wear whatever you feel most comfortable in.

We know for most of our guests it's not an easy trip to Smithers. In light of this, your presence will be your gift to us! We are so excited to see all of our favorite people in our favorite place!

Gifts

Are kids welcome?

Yes! Please let us know in advance if you plan on bringing your little ones to make sure we set a place for them.

Are pets welcome?

No, unfortunately the venue does not allow pets. If you'd like a kennel recommendation reach out to Jay and Sasha!

What's the drink situation?

There will be a bar with alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. Drinks are on us, save your cash for exploring the town! Our lovely bartenders always appreciate a tip!

Is the venue indoor or outdoor?

Our party will be held in an open air barn, so we don't need to worry about rain! The weather up north is variable so it could be a little chilly or a little hot. It will be hard to predict until the day-of!

Is there a hotel block booked?

Our party is pretty small, and lots of our guests live locally, so we have not booked a hotel block, however our venue offers beautiful onsite accommodations which are reserved for our guests as needed. See the 'Travel' tab for our recommendations on how to choose a place to stay.
